Asking ChatGPT who will Win Super Bowl LVII (for scientific purposes)

Over the past few months, ChatGPT has gotten international attention, and given tomorrow is the 57th Super Bowl, I thought I’d ask for its opinion on who will win. Unfortunately, the AI doesn’t have access to current information and data on the internet. The AI also repeatedly stressed that it wouldn’t be able to make an accurate prediction. There would also be other unforeseen factors involved in the game that could affect the outcome, like the performance of individual players, injuries, team strategies, and more. Regardless of this, I asked if there was any information I needed to provide. It requested the following:

Information about the teams that will be competing, including…

  • Record for current season

  • Key players and their performance statistics

  • Team strategies and style of play

  • Relevant information about past performances in similar high-pressure situations

  • The venue (where the game will be played) and expected weather conditions

The Philadelphia Eagles

I got my statistics for both teams based off ESPN. The following is what I gave about the Eagles:

“Here is the information about the Philadelphia Eagles:

They have a record of 14 wins and 3 loses

The quarterback, Jalen Hurts finished the season with 3,701 passing yards for 22 touchdowns, rushed for 760 yards, and 6 interceptions

The Eagles have a potent defense and the best offensive line in the league

The team has 2,509 rushing yards

The defense has sacked 70 times”

The Kansas City Chiefs

“Here is the information about the Kansas City Chiefs:

They also have a record of 14 wins and 3 loses

The quarterback, Patrick Mahomes finished the season with 5,250 passing yards for 21 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions

The Chiefs have the best offense in the league

The team has 1,970 rushing yards

The defense has sacked 55 times”

The Verdict

One arguable vice of ChatGPT is that it won’t make any predictions after a series of hazardous remarks. So after much haggling, here is its analysis:

“Given the strength of the Chiefs' offense and the Eagles' defense, it's difficult to predict a definite winner, and the final score could be close. However, it's possible that the final score could be in the range of something like 28-24, with either the Chiefs or the Eagles coming out on top.”

Finally, here is the pick: “I would estimate that the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl with a final score of 31-28

A solid prediction by ChatGPT, but whether or not it will be right, will be decided tomorrow. Regardless of this, the game will be close and exciting. And don’t forget about the best part of the Super Bowl. The commercials.
